Founded in 2013, Newark Science and Sustainability, Inc. (Newark SAS) is a community-driven, 501c3 nonprofit organization based in Newark, NJ that creates generational sustainability through the implementation of educational programs, agricultural training, and community green development initiatives to ensure eco-conscious communities and healthy food access locally and globally.

Current Initiatives

June 26 – November 6

Individuals make an advance payment of $395 to receive weekly locally grown produce packages, feeding 2 to 4 people for 20 weeks (June – October). You can also sponsor a family to ensures that fresh, healthy food reaches the tables of those that have no reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food.

July 11 – August 12 (5 weeks)

Youth are empowered by becoming exposed to and participating in hands-on learning activities and acts of community service, field trips, workshops, and a series of outdoor experiences.

The purpose of the conference is to inspire and empower attendees, so they become active participants toward the goal of building healthy, sustainable communities.

September 10 – 16

This week long, historical garden tour and present-day harvest provides an opportunity for residents and visitors to become informed about the various agricultural spaces that exist throughout the City of Newark.

 

September 24

This event allows residents to come together and partake of a community meal to bring about a true sense of community through the natural unifier of food.

Groundbreaking Spring 2024

This project aims to provide residents with more access to fresh, locally grown produce with features such as a hydroponic greenhouse, commercial kitchen, farm stand, and so much more.
