It is my great pleasure to spotlight Jennifer Wager, a Newark-based filmmaker and director of Venezuela Rising and Against the Silence: The Families of the Five Speak Out, which have screened at international film festivals and been broadcast on Latin American television networks.
Wager is an Assistant Professor at Essex County College (ECC), where she directs the Communications and New Media Technology programs. She regularly produces news segments for WBAI radio in New York City as well as the TV series Newark City of Poets. She holds a M.A. in Africana Studies from Ohio State University and a M.A. in Communication and Technology from Georgetown University. She is currently directing a documentary on the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana, Cuba.
As a board member of Newark Science and Sustainability, Inc. (Newark SAS) since 2014, her selfless acts have not gone unnoticed. Wager has rolled up her sleeves and took lead on grant proposals and contributed significantly to many of our public demonstrations, promoting healthy living and sustainable practices throughout Newark, New Jersey.
Wager has helped organized a number of events, including our 3rd Annual Sustainable Living Empowerment Conference held at ECC. She has also spearheaded several video projects that involved highlighting our programs, which has served as an hands-on learning experience for her students. Through narrative filmmaking, Professor Jennifer Wager has helped our message reach the minds and hearts of people throughout the world.
